Sindhu Tex

Sindhu Tex is our family-run spot over on C. N. A. Street in Kanchipuram. We are at number 50 A. If you know Kanchipuram, you know there are plenty of textile places around, but we’ve been here doing our thing for years. It’s a bit of a tight space inside because we have so many fabrics and sarees tucked away. The street outside can get quite loud with the scooters and people walking by. We don’t have a huge staff. It is mostly just a few of us who know the material well. We spend most of our time folding and unfolding cloth for customers who come in to look. It’s a lot of manual work. Sometimes the lights flicker a bit, but we just keep going. We don't do those big glossy catalogs. People usually just come in and feel the fabric for themselves. That’s the only way to know if it’s worth buying anyway. We have regulars who have been buying from us since my father was running the place. It’s a tradition for us more than just a job. The tea stalls nearby keep us going during the long afternoons. We don't have a fancy mission statement or anything like that. We just sell textiles and try to be fair with the people who come in. It’s a simple life on C. N. A. Street.
