Va Wood Works

Va Wood Works is out in the Sidco Industrial Estate in Kakkalur, at number 69. It’s a loud place to be, honestly. Between our saws and the machines running in the units next door, you can barely hear yourself think sometimes. The floor is always covered in a thin layer of sawdust, no matter how much we sweep it up at the end of the day. We’ve got stacks of timber leaning against the walls and various projects in different stages of being finished. It’s an industrial area, so there’s nothing pretty about it, just functional sheds and trucks moving in and out of Kakkalur. We spend our time measuring, cutting, and sanding. Our hands are usually rough and stained from the wood or the glue. We have an old radio that plays in the background, but you can only hear it when the big machines are off. When someone comes to visit, we usually have to step outside just to have a conversation without shouting. It’s hot in the summer under the tin roof, but we just keep at it. We don't have a showroom or anything like that. If you want to see what we're doing, you just have to come into the workshop and look at what’s on the bench. It’s basic, honest work with our hands, and that’s just how we like to keep things here in the estate.
