Jm Frictech India Ltd.

Working out here at G27 in the Sipcot Industrial Park is a different kind of life. Being in Katrambakkam Village, or at least on the edge of it in Irrungattukottai, means a lot of travel for most of us every morning. Jm Frictech India Ltd. is basically a big shed full of machines and metal. We spend the whole shift dealing with friction materials and parts. It gets loud when the presses are running, and you can’t really hear yourself think sometimes. We wear our uniforms and just get on with the production schedule. The park itself is huge, so there are always trucks moving in and out of the gates. During the lunch break, we usually sit together in the canteen and talk about cricket or family stuff. It’s a lot of manual work and checking the dimensions of the parts to make sure they aren't off by a millimeter. The heat from the machines makes the floor pretty warm, especially in the summer months. We don't have fancy carpets or quiet offices; it’s all concrete and steel here. Management stays in their section, and we stay on the floor. It’s a job that keeps you on your feet all day. By the time the evening whistle blows, everyone is ready to head home. The commute back through the village roads can be a bit slow with the tractors and buses, but it gives us time to wind down after a long shift.
