Jil Jewels-fashion Covering Jewellery

Our little shop is at 10 Mariappa Naicker Street in Nesappakkam. We deal with fashion covering jewellery, mostly the stuff people wear for weddings or just day-to-day. It’s tucked away in C.K. Nager. It’s not a big showroom or anything like that. We have glass cases filled with bangles and necklaces. Sometimes it takes a while to find exactly what someone is looking for because we have so many small pieces. The street can get pretty narrow and crowded with bikes. We've been in this spot for a few years. It’s mostly local ladies from the neighborhood who come in. Fingerprints get everywhere, so we spend a lot of time cleaning the glass. It’s just me and a couple of others working here. We don’t have a fancy computer system; we just write everything down in a ledger. It works for us. The lighting is okay, but we could probably use some brighter bulbs to show off the shine. We just like being part of the community here. People come in to chat as much as they do to buy jewelry. It feels like home. We don't do any big advertising. Word of mouth usually brings people to Mariappa Naicker Street. It’s a quiet life but we stay busy enough to keep the doors open. Sometimes the lock on the front door sticks, but we know the trick to it. We keep things simple.
