Jayalakshmi Eye Clinic

Jayalakshmi Eye Clinic is over on 9/4 Thambaiah Reddy Street in West Mambalam. If you know this part of the city, you know the streets are narrow and always full of scooters and people walking. We’ve been on this street for quite some time now. It’s a small clinic, mostly just a room for testing eyes and another for the glasses we have. We don't have thousands of frames to choose from, but we have the ones that people around here usually like. Most of our day is spent helping people who can't see the newspaper as well as they used to or kids who need their first pair of glasses for school. It’s a very local operation. I usually handle the front, and the doctor is in the back with the equipment. We don't have a computerized booking system that sends you texts; we just write your name down in the ledger. Sometimes the street gets noisy when there is a wedding or a procession nearby, but we just keep working. People in West Mambalam are friendly, so we often end up chatting about the neighborhood news while they are waiting for their eyes to dilate. We aren't trying to be a big fancy eye center. We are just a small shop on Thambaiah Reddy Street where you can get your eyes checked and pick out some decent frames without a lot of fuss. We stay open until late evening.
