About Jaya Wood Decors – Architect, Interior & Structural Design in Chennai
Our workshop is right on Thmarbarani Street in the ICF Colony area of Ambattur. If you walk past No. 23, you’ll probably hear the saws running or the sound of someone sanding down a piece of timber. The air is always thick with the smell of sawdust and wood glue. We spend our days surrounded by piles of plywood and solid wood planks. It’s a messy place, to be honest. No matter how much we sweep, the shavings just end up back on the floor by noon. We don't have a big showroom; we just have the space where we build things. Most of the work involves measuring twice and cutting once, though we still make mistakes now and then. We handle everything from small cupboards to bigger frame jobs. The tools we use are old but they still do what they are supposed to do. Ambattur is a big industrial hub, so there’s always someone looking for wood work. We just take the orders as they come and try to get them finished without too much delay. Sometimes a customer brings a drawing on a scrap of paper, and we try to figure out how to make it work. It’s just us and the wood, trying to build something that holds together. The benches are scarred from years of use, but that’s how a real workshop looks. It’s noisy and dusty, but it’s our daily life here.
