Jainsons Mylapore

Luz Corner is one of those places that never really goes to sleep, and our shop at 146-A is right in the thick of it. Being on Royapettah High Road means dealing with a lot of noise and dust, but you sort of get used to it after the first few months. We open up the doors and the first thing we do is get the duster out. It is a never-ending job here in Mylapore. The shop itself is a bit narrow, so we have to be clever about how we stack things. We have stuff reaching almost to the ceiling. If someone wants something from the top, we have to pull out the old wooden ladder which is a bit wobbly, but it does the trick. We see all kinds of people, from students to grandmothers who have lived in the area forever. We don't have a big script for how we talk to customers. We just say hello and help them find what they need. Sometimes the power cuts out and we just sit by the door to get some light from the street. There is a tea stall just around the corner where we get our daily fix. The owners there are friends of ours. It isn't a high-tech operation by any means. We do things the old-fashioned way, writing things down and keeping track of stuff manually. It’s just how we’ve always done it here near the corner.
