Indian Arts Museum

Indian Arts Museum is located in the Agurchand Mansion on Mount Road. If you know Chennai, you know how busy 151 Mount Road can get. The building itself is an old mansion, and it has that heavy, historic feel to it. It is not like the new glass buildings you see popping up everywhere now. We have been here for quite some time, tucked inside these thick walls. It stays a bit cooler inside because of how it was built, which is nice during the summer months. We keep a lot of different pieces here. It is a bit of a maze sometimes with all the crates and the displays. We do not really go for the high-end gallery look. It is more of a place where things are kept and shared. The floors are old and they creak a bit when you walk across them. We spend a lot of time just cleaning and moving things around to make space for new arrivals. Mount Road is always humming with traffic outside, but once you step into the mansion, it feels a bit like stepping back in time. We do not have a huge staff, just a few of us who know where everything is located. It is a lot of work to keep an eye on everything, but we like being part of the history of this road. It’s a solid old place and it keeps us busy from morning till we lock up the gates at night.
