We are out on the Thiruvellore High Road at No.1 Puduchatram. To get here, you have to pass through Thirumazhisai, which can be a slow trip depending on the time of day. This is the second entry for India Japan Lighting, but the work remains the same as always. We are surrounded by other industrial plots and a lot of greenery that hasn't been built over yet. Inside our building, it’s all about the assembly and the parts. We have a lot of people who have been with us for years, so it feels a bit like a small community. We drink a lot of coffee and try to stay on top of the production numbers. The floor is always busy, and there’s a specific smell of electronics and metal that you notice as soon as you walk in. It’s not a fancy place, and we don’t have a big fancy lobby for visitors. Most of the people who come here are delivery drivers or technicians. We have our own ways of fixing things when they break down, and we don't rely on too many outside experts. The weather out here can be quite humid, which makes the afternoons feel a bit long. But we just keep at it until the shift ends. It’s honest work and we don’t try to make it sound like anything else. We just happen to be one of the many businesses along this stretch of road.
