Hisham Architects

Hisham Architects is based at No 2/3, Iyyem Perumal Street in Royapettah. We are very close to the Royapettah Hospital, so that is the main landmark we give everyone. This part of Chennai has a lot of history and the streets are quite narrow, which gives it a certain feel. Our office is a place filled with rolls of tracing paper, old blueprints, and a few computers that probably need an upgrade. We spend our hours drawing lines and trying to figure out how to make a building stand up and look okay at the same time. It is not like what you see on TV where everything is glamorous. It is a lot of arguing with contractors about where a pipe should go and making sure we follow the local building rules. Being in Royapettah, we get a mix of old houses and new shops wanting some work done. The traffic outside can be a bit of a nightmare, especially near the hospital gates, but we have gotten used to the constant honking. We are not a big firm with a receptionist and fancy coffee. Usually, you will just find us hunched over a desk or out on a site checking if the pillars are straight. We just do our drawings, talk to our clients, and try to make sure the construction goes as planned without too many mistakes along the way.
