Our workspace is inside the Citilights Corporate Centre, which is just off Mayor Ramanathan Road in the Chetpet area. It’s a busy part of the city, and the commute here can be pretty draining when the traffic is at its worst. At Heidenhain Optics & Electronics India Pvt Ltd, we spend our days dealing with some very precise components. The office has a bit of a sterile feel because of all the electronics, but we try to keep it friendly. We have a small team, and we’ve all been here long enough to know each other’s quirks. There’s a lot of sitting around at desks and looking at technical drawings or testing out different optical parts. The lighting in the building is a bit dim in some spots, so we have plenty of desk lamps to help us see the small details. Chetpet is a familiar place for us, and we have our favorite tea stall just around the corner where we head when things get stressful. We aren't a big corporation with hundreds of employees; it’s more of a focused group of people trying to get the technical stuff right. The office is often quiet, except for the sound of someone typing or the hum of the air conditioner. We have boxes of components stacked near the entrance waiting to be sorted. It’s not a fancy lifestyle, just a lot of steady work with electronics and optics in a part of town we know well.
