Our workshop is located at 4/316 on V.O.C. Street, right opposite Nehru Nagar on the Old Mahabalipuram Road. Most people around here just call it OMR. It’s a very busy stretch of road with all the IT parks nearby, but our street has a different, more industrial feel to it. The heat from the machines can be a bit much during the peak of summer, but we manage. We’ve been operating from this location for quite some time now. The building is a sturdy structure that has seen a lot of work over the years. We usually start our shifts early to beat the worst of the traffic coming from the city. There’s a lot of dust and noise, which is expected for the kind of work we do. We don’t have a fancy office upstairs; it’s mostly just a small desk area where we keep the records and handle the phone calls. The workers here are mostly locals who have been with us for years. We eat our lunch together in a small shaded area out back. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we know. Sometimes the OMR traffic makes it hard for suppliers to reach us on time, so we’ve learned to plan everything well in advance. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs doing. It’s a straightforward way of living and working.
