G. R. Thangamailgai Ltd.

Our place, G. R. Thangamailgai Ltd., is located at 104 Usman Road in Tnagar. Anyone who lives in Chennai knows that Usman Road is one of the busiest streets you could ever find. It’s always crowded with shoppers and people rushing around, and the noise from the street never really stops. We’ve been here for quite some time now, and the shop has become a bit of a fixture in the neighborhood. We mostly deal with jewelry, but we try to keep things down-to-earth. It’s not like those stiff, high-end boutiques where you feel like you can't touch anything. We have regulars who come in just to say hello or to get something small repaired. The staff here is like a little family; we’ve seen each other through all sorts of busy seasons and festivals when the shop gets absolutely packed. Sometimes it gets so hot in the afternoons that we just hope the AC holds up. We don't use any big slogans or try to act like we are better than the shop next door. We just show the gold and silver we have and let people decide for themselves. Working in Tnagar means you have to be ready for anything, from heavy rains to huge crowds. It’s a bit exhausting sometimes, but we wouldn't really want to be anywhere else. We just open the doors every morning and see who comes in.
