Format Architects

Adyar is a nice part of the city, and Karpagam Gardens is a particularly quiet spot compared to the main roads. We are located at No 3 on 8th Cross Street, where we run Format Architects. The office is in a building that feels like a home, which makes it easier to work long hours. We don't have a lot of corporate rules here, just a group of people who know how to draw and plan buildings. Sometimes we spend the whole morning just talking about one specific corner of a house and how the light will hit it in the morning. It’s a lot of back-and-forth between us and the people we are building for. The 8th Cross Street is usually lined with trees, so it stays a bit cooler, which we appreciate when the power goes out. We have stacks of paper everywhere and a few models of buildings made out of cardboard sitting on the shelves. It’s a bit messy, but that’s how we work best. People come to us because they want someone local who knows the area and how things are built around here. We just take their ideas and try to make them real without making it too complicated. It’s just regular work, day in and day out, making sure the plans are right before the first brick is laid. We have been here for a while and like the neighborhood.
