Our studio is located at Buva House, No. 13/8 on Khader Nazawa Khan Road in Nungambakkam. This is a bit of a different vibe from our other locations. The road outside is full of high-end shops and cafes, so it’s a very active part of Chennai. Farida Newline Studio is where we do a lot of the creative side of things for the shoes. It’s an office where we look at designs and samples. It’s a bit quieter here than at the factory, though we still have plenty of boxes and leather scraps lying around. The building is older but has its own character. We spend a lot of time sitting around the table talking about what styles might work next. Sometimes we have people from the production side come over to see if a design is actually possible to make. It’s not a corporate showroom with glass walls and minimalist furniture. It looks like a place where people actually work. There are sketches pinned to the walls and piles of fashion magazines in the corner. We like being in Nungambakkam because it’s central and easy for people to find us. We just focus on the shoes and try to come up with things that look good and stay practical. It’s a small team here and we mostly just drink tea and work through the designs.
