Our studio is tucked away in Buva House at No.13/8 on Khader Nazawa Khan Road. Nungambakkam is a pretty active part of the city, and being on this road means there is always something going on outside our windows. Farida Newline Studio Pvt. Ltd. isn't a massive factory; it’s more of a focused space where we work on designs and new ideas. It gets a bit crowded inside when we have a lot of samples lying around. People are usually hunched over desks or talking about how a certain piece should look. We drink a lot of coffee to keep going. The light in the studio is okay, but we could always use more. It’s a creative spot but without the pretentiousness you see in some other places. We just want to get the patterns right. Sometimes we stay late when a project is due, and the street outside finally gets quiet. It’s a nice mix of people here, some who have been doing this for decades and some younger kids who are just starting out. We don’t have a big sign out front or anything. Most people who come here already know where we are. It’s a practical workspace. We deal with fabrics, sketches, and a lot of back-and-forth emails. It’s not always glamorous, but it’s what we do, and we’ve gotten pretty good at navigating the daily grind in this neighborhood. We enjoy the work.
