If you head down to Periamet, you’ll find us on Sydenhams Road. We are at No. 249/162, right where the air always smells like cut wood. Timber has been our life for a long time. Our yard is filled with stacks of different types of wood, and it’s usually a bit of a maze getting through it all. It’s heavy, physical work, and the Chennai heat doesn't make it any easier, but we are used to it by now. We spend our days measuring, cutting, and moving planks around. It’s not a clean job; there’s sawdust everywhere, even in our pockets by the end of the day. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning. We mostly sit near the front where we can see the trucks coming in. Customers come to us because they know we’ve been here for years and we know our wood. We don't do much in the way of promotional stuff. Our reputation comes from the piles of timber we keep and the fact that we show up every day. Sydenhams Road is a busy place with lots of traffic and other businesses, but we have our own rhythm here. It’s a family-run kind of feel, even if we are a private limited company on paper. We just like working with our hands and seeing the wood go out to build something new.
