Down here in Ekkaduthangal at the Thiruvika Industrial Estate, things move pretty fast. Our place at TS 129 A is usually full of wires and control panels. It is one of those areas in Chennai where you really feel the industrial pulse. The traffic on the way in can be a nightmare, but once we’re inside, we just get to work. We handle power controls, so there is always something to test or a circuit to check. It’s mostly technical stuff, but we try to explain it in plain terms when people ask. The floor gets a bit crowded when a big shipment comes in. We’ve got a mix of young guys learning the ropes and older staff who have been doing this since the estate was much quieter. We don't have a lot of time for fancy talk. If a panel needs wiring, someone sits down and does it. We take our breaks together, usually grabbing something quick from the nearby stalls. Sometimes the monsoon rains make the roads a mess, but the work doesn't stop. We just keep the shutters down and keep going. It’s a practical business. We’re not trying to change the world; we’re just making sure the power systems work like they are supposed to for whoever needs them. It’s steady work and we like the routine of it all.
