We are tucked away in Flat No. 5 at the N.D. Flats building on Muthia Mudali Street. It’s in the Vellala Teynampet area of Chennai. If you’ve ever tried to park around here, you know it’s a bit of a challenge. East Coast Construction And Industries Ltd. has been operating from this spot for quite a while. It’s a central location which helps us get to our different job sites across the city. The office isn't anything fancy, just a few desks and a lot of project folders piled up. We spend a lot of time on the phone talking to suppliers and site supervisors. It’s a lot of back-and-forth every day. We aren't the type of company that has a big reception area with fancy lights. We’re more about the actual work. Most of our staff are out in the field during the day, so it can be quiet in the office until late afternoon when everyone comes back. Living and working in Chennai means getting used to the heat and the humidity, and our office in Vellala Teynampet is no different. We have a couple of old fans that work overtime. The walls are covered in schedules that keep changing because that’s just how construction goes. Someone is always calling to say a truck is stuck in traffic or a part didn't arrive. We just take it in our stride. We’ve been at N.D. Flats for years, so we know all the other people in the building. It’s a decent living.
