Dofx Architecture

Our office is in Ayanavaram, on New Street. It’s a bit confusing because we have an old number, 17, and a new one, 93, but if you look for the Ayanavaram Post Office, we are right there. The neighborhood has that old Chennai feel to it, with narrow lanes and houses that have been there for generations. We do architectural work, which basically means we spend our time thinking about how buildings should be put together. It’s a lot of technical stuff, like making sure the drainage is right or the pillars are strong enough. We don’t have a polished showroom. Instead, our space is full of rulers, calculators, and computer screens. We often have a lot of dust on our shoes from visiting construction sites. It’s not a glamorous job, but we enjoy the process of seeing something go from a sketch to a real structure. We deal with all the paperwork and the permissions too, which can be a real headache, but someone has to do it. We talk to people about their ideas and then we try to make them work within the rules and the budget. There’s no magic to it, just a lot of hard work and making sure the measurements are accurate. We've been at this for a long time and we know this part of the city like the back of our hand. It is just us here every day doing the work.
