Lucky Bags

Our workshop is located on the first floor at No. 2/3 on 5th Street. It’s right in the middle of Strahans Road in the Dashamakan Pattalam area. You have to climb a narrow set of stairs to get to us. The room is always filled with the hum of sewing machines and the smell of fresh fabric. We make a lot of different bags, mostly the sturdy kind that people use for their groceries or carrying heavy things. It’s not a huge factory, just a few of us sitting at our stations. The floor is usually covered in little bits of thread and cloth scraps that we sweep up at the end of the day. We’ve been in this neighborhood for a long time, and most of the workers live just a short walk away. Sometimes it gets quite hot in the mid-afternoon, especially when all the machines have been running since morning. We don’t have a fancy display area or a big sign outside. Usually, people just see our bags hanging near the window from the street below. If you stop by, you’ll see stacks of canvas and nylon waiting to be cut. It’s honest, steady work and we don't bother with much else. We just focus on getting the stitching right and making sure the handles are strong enough for whatever they’ll carry. It is just a simple place doing simple things every day.
