Our place is located on S V Chidambaram Salai in Jafferkhanpet, over in the Ashok Nagar area. We deal with abrasives, so there’s always a bit of dust in the air and stacks of grinding wheels and sandpaper everywhere you look. The building at 8/12 is where we do all our sorting and packing. It’s not a very quiet office because of the traffic outside and the sound of things being moved around. Chennai gets really hot, so we have the fans on full blast most of the year. We have a handful of staff who have been here for a long time. They know exactly which shelf everything is on without even looking. We don’t bother with fancy slogans or marketing talk. Most of our day is spent checking the stock and talking to people who need supplies for their factories. It’s a very straightforward way of working. We write things down in big ledgers and try to keep the warehouse as organized as we can, though it gets a bit cluttered during the busy season. If you come by, you’ll see us in our shirtsleeves, probably moving some crates or checking a delivery note. It’s a practical business run by people who aren't afraid to get their hands a bit dirty. We just show up every morning and get through the list of things that need doing until it's time to go home.
