Down here at No. 24/1 Sattanna Street in Choolai, things are usually moving pretty fast. Meenakshi Glass Interior is situated right in the middle of all that Chennai heat and noise. We spend most of our time handling different kinds of glass, which means you have to be careful every single minute. The shop isn't huge, but we pack a lot of stuff into it. You’ll find pieces of glass leaning against the walls and tools scattered on the benches where we do the cutting and finishing. Sattanna Street is one of those places where everyone knows each other, so there’s always someone poking their head in to say hello or ask a quick question. It’s a bit dusty, especially when the wind blows through the street, but we just wipe things down and keep going. Working with interiors means we are always looking at measurements and trying to get the edges just right. It’s not a quiet job. You hear the sound of glass being scored and the occasional clatter of frames. We don’t really do big speeches about what we do. We just open up in the morning, take the orders that come in, and try to get the glass ready for whoever is waiting for it. It’s a simple way of working, really. No fancy computers everywhere, just the tape measure and the glass cutters. There is no point in complicating things when you have work to finish.
