Nakoda Glass House is right at No. 108, very close to the Yamaha showroom. Being near a big landmark like that makes it easy for people to find us, which is good because we have a lot of glass to move around. Glass is heavy and breaks easily, so we have to be really careful every single day. Our shop is filled with different types of glass sheets and mirrors leaning against the walls. We have to keep the floor swept constantly because tiny shards always seem to find their way into the corners. It’s not a fancy showroom itself, just a practical workspace where we cut and move glass. The staff here is used to the physical work, and we all have a few small scars from the job. We don’t use any polished language to describe what we do. We just take measurements, cut the pieces, and get them ready for whoever needs them. Sometimes the traffic near the Yamaha shop gets backed up, and it’s hard for our delivery van to get out of the narrow space we have. We just wait it out. We’ve been here long enough that we don’t really think about moving. It’s a good spot for us. We open up the shutters every morning and just get to it. There’s no big strategy, just working with our hands and making sure the glass stays in one piece. We even have an old cat that hangs around the back and sleeps on the crate.
