Chennai Novelties

Chennai Novelties is located at No. 32 Strotten Muthaiah Street, up on the 1st floor. This is right in the heart of Sowcarpet, which is probably one of the most crowded and energetic places you can find. To get to us, you have to navigate through the narrow lanes where there are always carts and people moving about. Once you find number 32, you head up the stairs to the first floor. The shop is packed with all sorts of small items and trinkets. It’s the kind of place where you have to look closely or you might miss something interesting tucked away in a corner. Being on the 1st floor means it’s a little bit quieter than the street level, but you can still hear the shouting of the vendors below. We spend our days sorting through new stock and trying to find space on the shelves for everything. Sowcarpet has a very specific smell of spices and old buildings, and that carries into the shop too. We don't have a lot of room to move around, so we have to be careful not to knock things over. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the boxes and displays. We just keep the lights on and help people find what they are looking for among all the variety we have. It’s a hectic way to work, but we like the energy of the market.
