Carborunum Universal Ltd

Down on T.H. Road in Thiruvottiyur, the air is always thick with the smell of the sea and the hum of the nearby factories. We’ve been at this spot, registered under Pb. No. 655, for quite a long time. Carborunum Universal is where we work with abrasives and heavy ceramics. It is a gritty job. You can’t really work here and stay clean for more than ten minutes. The floors are stained and the machines are old, but they are built to last. We spend our shifts making things that grind and cut other materials. It’s loud, and the heat from the kilns is something you never really get used to, even after years. We don’t have much time for meetings or fancy presentations. Most of the communication happens on the shop floor over the noise of the grinders. We take our breaks in the shade when we can find it. The neighborhood around here is mostly industrial, so we fit right in with the other plants. We know the local truck drivers who come to pick up the crates of finished goods. It’s a steady kind of life. We don't make big promises or use complicated words to describe what we do. We just make sure the quality of the ceramic is right and the shipments go out on time. It’s basic, hard work that keeps the world moving, and we are fine with that. It is just life on the road.
