Bombay Agencies

Bombay Agencies is located on Narayana Mudali Street. Our address has those confusing old and new numbers—we are New No. 98, which used to be Old No. 60. If you know this part of Chennai, you know it’s a maze of narrow streets and tiny shops packed with goods. It’s one of the busiest trading hubs in the city. We’ve been squeezed into this street for quite some time. Every morning, the shutters go up and the street starts filling with carts and people carrying bundles. Our shop is narrow and tall, typical for this area. We have shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling, stuffed with whatever we are stocking at the moment. It’s dusty, it’s loud, and it’s always moving. We don't have air conditioning that works very well, so the door stays open to catch whatever breeze comes down the alley. Customers come in and out, usually looking for specific items, and we spend a lot of time checking ledgers or talking to suppliers on the phone. There’s no space for a fancy lounge here. You just stand at the counter or sit on a plastic stool. It’s a real, old-fashioned way of doing business where everyone knows everyone else on the street. We just keep things simple and try to keep the stock moving without too much trouble. It is just the way business happens here.
