Bearings International Co.

Our shop, Bearings International Co., is at 229 Thambu Chetty Street, though some of the older folks still remember it as number 112. This street has a long history and we’ve been a part of it for a long time. It’s a narrow road and it gets really crowded with two-wheelers and people walking, but that’s just how it is in this part of the city. Inside, we have rows and rows of bearings of all sizes. The shelves are made of old wood and they've held up well over the decades. We spend our days helping people find exactly the right size for their fans, pumps, or car engines. It's often dusty work, but someone has to do it. We don't have a website or any of that modern stuff. People usually find us by word of mouth or by just walking past. We have an old ceiling fan that wobbles a bit, and a few chairs for when friends drop by for a chat. Our records are mostly kept in big books with yellowing pages. We’ve seen the street change from quiet to bustling, but our business remains pretty much the same. We just keep our heads down and focus on what we know best. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we’ve always done. We open early and close when the sun goes down, just like our neighbors do. That is the way we like it.
