We are located over on Bharathiyar Street in Ambal Nagar, right on the main road in Ekkattuthangal. It’s a lively neighborhood with plenty of small shops and workshops squeezed together. Our place at No. 4/9 is usually pretty easy to spot because there’s almost always some metal being moved around outside. The workshop floor is where everything happens. It’s noisy and there is a constant smell of cut steel and cooling fluid. We started small and just kept adding bits and pieces as we needed them over the years, so the layout is a bit chaotic if you aren't used to it. The fans are always going, but they don’t do much against the Chennai heat once the afternoon hits and the metal starts getting warm. Most of the staff live nearby, so there’s a lot of local talk going on while we work. We don't have a fancy reception area or anyone to greet you at the door; you usually just walk in and find someone at a machine or sitting at the small wooden desk in the corner. We spend our days staring at dimensions and making sure the cuts are right. If a tool breaks, we fix it and keep going. It’s a lot of hard work and long hours standing on the concrete, but it’s what we do. The street outside is always jammed with scooters, but inside, we just focus on the job at hand and try to stay on schedule.
