Our office is in Bhattad Towers, which is at 18, West Cott Road in Royapettah. Being in the middle of Chennai like this means there is always noise from the street coming through the windows. Arun Excello Foundations Pvt. Ltd. takes up a portion of the building there. It’s a different vibe from being on a construction site, but this is where all the planning and the phone calls happen. The desks are usually covered in blueprints and stacks of files. Royapettah is a busy neighborhood, so getting to the office in the morning can be a bit of a struggle with the bikes and cars everywhere. We’ve been in this building for some time. It’s an older tower, but it does the job. Most of the people working here are engineers or clerks who have been with us through plenty of projects. We spend a lot of time talking about foundations and dirt and concrete. It’s not a glamorous setup, just a lot of computers and some old wooden cupboards for the archives. Sometimes the lift in the building acts up, so we take the stairs. We don’t really do anything for show. Clients come in, sit on the chairs in the lobby area, and we talk about whatever project is on the schedule. It’s a straightforward way of doing business in a very busy part of the city where space is always at a premium.
