Periamet has always been the heart of the leather trade in this city. We are located right on Covelong Muthu Street at number 9. It’s a narrow street, and sometimes getting trucks in and out is a real headache, but we make it work. Aristo Leather Exports isn't a new name around here. We handle a lot of shipping, mostly sending stuff abroad. The warehouse is usually full of boxes stacked up to the ceiling. It’s noisy and there is always someone shouting instructions or moving a pallet around. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room. If you come by, you’ll likely find us in the middle of a stack of papers or checking a crate. The humidity in Chennai can be tough on the material, so we have to be careful how we store things. We’ve been at this for years, and the routine hasn't changed much. We get the leather in, we check it, we pack it, and then it’s off to the port. It’s a simple process but it takes a lot of time and effort to get it right. Some days are longer than others, especially when a big shipment is due. We’re just a group of people trying to keep the business moving from this little corner of Periamet. It's not glamorous, but it keeps us busy and pays the bills.
