General Patters Road is famous for auto parts, and we are right in the thick of it at Number 9. Anand Auto Corporation sits near the LIC building on Mount Road, which is a very busy part of Chennai. If you’ve ever looked for a spare part for your car, you’ve probably walked past our front door. It’s a noisy street with horns honking and people shouting all day long. Inside our shop, it’s a bit of a maze with shelves reaching up to the ceiling. We have parts for almost everything, though finding them quickly takes a bit of practice. The staff here has been around for years, so we usually know what a customer needs before they even finish their sentence. We don't use fancy computer systems for everything; sometimes a handwritten note is faster. The floor gets a bit greasy from the parts, and the air smells like oil and rubber, but that’s the nature of the auto business. We aren't corporate people in suits. We are guys who know engines and gears. When the sun goes down, we close up the metal shutters and head home, only to do it all again the next day. It’s a constant cycle of orders and deliveries. Being on GP Road means there is never a dull moment. We just keep our heads down and help whoever walks in with a broken part in their hand or a list from their mechanic.
