You can find Ahmed Anwar & Co. at 20/63, Wuttucattan Street, over in Periamet. The street is one of those narrow ones where you have to be careful when two bikes are passing each other. Our office is tucked into the building there, and it’s got that old Periamet feel to it. There’s a bit of a climb up the stairs, and they’ve been worn down in the middle from years of people going up and down. Inside, it’s mostly just us and the work. We have large wooden desks that take up a lot of the room. The windows look out onto the street, so we see everyone passing by. Sometimes we wave to the neighbors or the delivery guys. It gets quite warm in the middle of the day, so the ceiling fans are always spinning. We keep things pretty organized, though there’s always a pile of ledgers that seems to grow on its own. It’s not a high-tech lab or a glass tower. It’s a brick and mortar spot where we’ve spent many years. We know the tea seller downstairs and the sounds of the neighborhood by heart. When the rain comes, the sound on the roof is so loud we have to shout a little to be heard. It’s just a normal workplace where we try to get things done without too much fuss or bother or worry about how things look to outsiders.
