Out here in Athapampalayam, things move at their own pace. We are located near Sivagiri in the Erode district. If you’re coming from the main road, you have to look for the Vilakethi post office area. It’s a very green part of Tamilnadu, lots of fields around us. Our office is a basic building, nothing too modern, but it serves us well. Most of the guys here are from the local villages. We start early when the air is still a bit cool before the sun gets too high. There is a small canteen nearby where we get our lunch, usually rice and sambar. The dust from the road sometimes gets inside, so we spend a lot of time sweeping. It’s a quiet place mostly, unless there’s a big shipment moving. We spend a lot of time on the phone or checking the ledgers. The fans hum all day long. Sometimes we take a break under the big tree out front when it gets really stuffy inside. It’s not a corporate skyscraper, just a regular workplace where we do our jobs and go home to our families. We know the neighbors and the local shopkeepers well. Life in Erode is simple, and we like it that way. We just keep our heads down and handle whatever work comes through the door each morning. It is a good place to work with people you know well.
