Angappa Naicken Street is where we’ve set up shop, and if you’ve ever walked down this street, you know it’s one of those old-school commercial lanes. Our place, Acme Switchgears, at number 107 is basically a hub for switchgear components. It’s a narrow building, and we’ve used every inch of space to store our inventory. There are boxes of parts stacked almost to the ceiling in some parts of the shop. Most of the day is spent with customers who come in looking for specific electrical parts for their buildings or factories. We do a lot of counting and checking serial numbers. It’s a very hands-on job. The street outside is always packed with carts and people moving goods, so getting a delivery truck in or out is a whole production that requires a lot of shouting and maneuvering. We don't have air conditioning in the main storage area, so it gets pretty warm in the afternoons, but we’ve got some sturdy fans. There’s a small desk near the front where we handle the cash and the billing. It’s a simple setup, and it’s been that way for a long time. We know the other shopkeepers on the street, and there’s always someone coming in for a chat or to borrow a tool. It’s a bit chaotic and loud, but that’s the energy of this area, and we’ve grown quite fond of it over the years.
