We are A S Doraiswami & Son, and you can find us at Old No 121, New No 247, on the second floor. We’re right opposite the Sree Ram Bhavan on Thambu Chetty Street in Parrys. This part of Chennai is always buzzing with activity, and our street is no exception. It’s one of those places where the history of the city really shows in the buildings. Our office is up a flight of stairs that are a bit narrow, so you have to be careful when you're carrying things. We’ve been here for a long time, and the rooms are filled with old wooden desks and stacks of ledgers. It’s a family-run kind of atmosphere, and we don’t really go in for modern office decorations. Most of our work involves managing details for shipping and logistics. We talk to a lot of different people, from truck drivers to port officials. It’s a lot of writing things down and checking them twice to make sure nothing was missed. The fans on the ceiling hum all day long to keep the air moving during the heat. We usually have a bit of a rush in the afternoons before the post goes out. It’s not the quietest place to work, but it’s where we’ve always been. We just focus on the daily chores and making sure the records are kept straight for everyone we deal with. It is simple work.
