Our place is at number 11 on Bharathiyar Street. We are right in the Nandivaram area of Guduvancheri. If you know the neighborhood, you know it’s gotten a lot busier lately. Our office sits on a street where people are always moving around. We get in early to beat some of the heat and get the ledgers ready. It’s a plain room with enough space for us and a few visitors. The walls are painted a light color that’s faded a bit over the years. We keep the paperwork in metal cupboards that have been here since we started. Kancheepuram can get quite dusty, so there’s a lot of cleaning to do every morning before we sit down. Most of the people who come by live just a few streets away. We recognize most of the faces. There’s a small tea shop nearby where we get our mid-morning drinks. We don't use any fancy computers for everything, a lot of it is still done by hand in big books. It feels more real that way. The street can be a bit tight for parking, but people manage. We have a small clock on the wall that ticks quite loudly when it’s quiet. It’s just a normal day-to-day business in a normal part of town. We stay open until the sun goes down and then head home like everyone else.
