Our firm is tucked away on the first floor of the Monisha Srihari Apartments. It is building number 8 on Ragavendra Salai in Chitlapakkam. It is a residential-feeling area, which makes the office feel a bit more relaxed than those high-rise buildings in the middle of Chennai. We have been working out of this B1 unit for a while now. It is not the biggest office, but we have enough room for our desks and the mountains of paperwork that come with being chartered accountants. The stairs can be a bit steep if you are carrying heavy boxes of files, but we are used to it. We spend most of our hours looking at spreadsheets and making sure all the math adds up correctly. It is a quiet spot, which is good when you need to concentrate on complicated tax forms. Sometimes we hear the neighbors or the street noises outside, but it is just part of the atmosphere here. We are not trying to be anything fancy or corporate. We are just a team of professionals doing our jobs in a local neighborhood. Most days are pretty predictable, filled with meetings and calculations. We have a small kitchen area where we take our lunch breaks, and that is about as exciting as it gets. It is an honest living, and we have been part of the Chitlapakkam community for a good bit of time.
