Mani Supermarket

Mani Supermarket is at 281 Gandhi Road in Nenmeli. It’s a decent-sized place for this area, so we carry more different things than the tiny corner shops. We’ve got the usual groceries, some plastic buckets, and a few basic school supplies for the kids. The morning starts with us checking the milk packets and making sure the bread is fresh. Gandhi Road is usually busy, so we get people coming in on their way to work or after they drop their children off. We have a couple of helpers who move the heavy stuff around while I handle the billing. The computer we use for the bills is a bit slow and sometimes it takes a minute to print the receipt, but people don't seem to mind much. We try to keep the aisles clear, but there is always a box of something sitting out that hasn't been put away yet. The ceiling fans hum quite loudly during the day. We’ve had some of the same customers for years and we know exactly what they’re looking for before they even ask. It’s a lot of repetitive work, stocking and cleaning, but it keeps us busy. We don’t go for anything fancy, just a straightforward place to get your shopping done and go home. Someone usually has to go out and sweep the front every few hours because of the traffic dust. It’s a bit of a never-ending job with the dirt.
