Makkal Maligai

Our shop is right at number 21 in Singaperumal Koil, sitting very close to the main bus stop. You can see the big buses pulling in and out all day long from our front door. It gets quite dusty inside because of all the vehicles passing by so close, so we find ourselves wiping down the glass counters almost every hour. It is a small shop, truthfully. There is only enough room for maybe three or four people to stand inside at the same time without it feeling crowded. We keep all the daily essentials here on the shelves. Most people just stop by quickly while they are waiting for their bus to head into the city or get back home after work. I have been working in this spot for several years now. The morning shift is usually the most hectic part of the day because everyone seems to be in a big hurry to get somewhere else. We do not have any fancy displays or bright lights to show off the products. It is just basic wooden shelves with items lined up. Sometimes the light at the very back of the store flickers, but we have gotten used to it. We know most of the regulars who live around the temple area by their names. They come in to get what they need for their kitchens and stay for a quick chat about the weather. It is a simple life here at the shop.
