This site is the Kanchipuram Works, located right along the Chennai-Bangalore Highway in Vedal. It is a big area, so you can’t really miss it when you are driving past. We have a lot of different things going on here at once. It’s a mix of heavy machinery, construction materials, and a lot of people moving around in safety gear. Even though it is a well-known name, the daily life here is just like any other big worksite. There is a lot of dust from the road and the ongoing projects. We start our shifts early to beat the worst of the highway traffic. Most of our time is spent managing the logistics of the yard or keeping an eye on the production lines. It’s a practical environment where people are more worried about deadlines and equipment maintenance than anything else. We have a post bag number for mail because the site is so large. Dealing with the weather is a big part of the job here, as the sun can be quite intense on the open highway. There isn’t much fluff in how we talk to each other. It is mostly about getting the tasks done and making sure everyone stays safe while doing it. It’s a busy, noisy, and productive place that has become a bit of a landmark for people traveling between the two cities.
