We are located out at Plot No. K60 in the Sipcot Apparel Park over in Sriperumbudur. It’s a long way out from the main city of Chennai, so the commute is a bit of a trek for many of us. The park itself is huge and filled with various garment units. It’s a very organized area, but it feels a bit isolated because it’s so far out. We have a large plot here where we handle all the ready-made garment work. It’s a lot of space, which is necessary when you’re dealing with thousands of pieces of clothing at once. The building is just a big functional box, really. We don't have gardens or anything like that. Inside, it’s all rows of workstations and piles of fabric waiting to be cut or stitched. The air conditioning works when it wants to, but we mostly just keep the big doors open to let some air in. It gets very busy during the peak seasons when we have big orders to finish. You can hear the hum of the machines from the parking lot. We eat our lunch in a small break area and then get right back to the floor. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s steady work. We’ve been in this spot since the park opened up. It’s just how we spend our days, surrounded by thread and fabric in the middle of Sriperumbudur.
