Chennai Supermarket

Our shop, Chennai Supermarket, is located at 2/85 on Madurantakam Road. It’s a fairly straightforward place. We aren't one of those massive malls you see in the city center, but we have enough stuff to keep the local kitchens running. Being on the Madurantakam Road means we get a lot of people stopping by while they’re traveling between places. It’s a good mix of locals and folks just passing through. We spend a lot of our time just unloading crates and making sure the vegetables and rice bags are where they should be. It can get a bit hot in the afternoons, especially when the sun hits the front of the store, but we have a few fans going to keep it manageable. We don't have a lot of fancy displays or bright lights. It’s just rows of items that people need for their daily lives. Most of our staff are guys from the surrounding villages who have been with us for a long time. We know who likes which brand of tea and who usually comes in on a Saturday morning. Dealing with the suppliers is probably the hardest part, making sure the trucks arrive on time. But overall, it’s a steady life here. We just try to keep things honest and make sure the scales are working right. That’s about all there is to it. We just keep the doors open and the shelves stocked.
