We’ve been here at 395 Pazhanjur Road for a while now. It’s out in Pazhanjur Village, past the Chembaramabakkam Post. The shop floor is usually pretty loud with the machines running all day long. Most of us get here early before the sun gets too hot. It is a quiet area mostly, though the road gets busy with trucks sometimes. We mostly just keep our heads down and get the work done. The shoes are everywhere, boxes stacked up in the corners and leather scraps on the floor. Sometimes it feels like there isn't enough space for everything we need to do. A lot of the people working here come from nearby so we all know each other well. It’s not a fancy place by any means. There’s a tea stall down the road where we go when we need a break from the noise. We don't have a big fancy lobby or anything like that. Just the office and the production area. You find your way here by looking for the big gate after you pass the village center. It gets dusty in the summer months and we have to keep the fans going constantly. It’s just how things are at Althaf Shoes Pvt. Ltd. We try to keep things moving so the orders go out when they are supposed to. It’s a lot of physical work and by the end of the day, everyone is ready to head home. That’s life here.
