About Sri Cheluvaraya Swamy Battery Point – Automobile in Channapatna
Attibele is a busy place with all the trucks and cars moving through, and we sit right in the middle of it. Our floor is almost always a bit stained with oil or battery acid, no matter how much we sweep it. Batteries are heavy things, so there is a lot of lifting and moving crates around throughout the day. It’s physical work. We have a few benches where we keep the chargers going. You can always hear that low hum of the electricity if you stand still for a second. Most people stop by because their car won't start or they need a backup for their house. We’ve seen all kinds of old batteries come through here. Sometimes the place smells a bit like lead and chemicals, but you get used to it after the first hour of the shift. It’s just the two of us usually, making sure we don't mix up the orders. We keep a ledger on the wooden desk to track who brought what. It is a practical business. We don't have air conditioning, just a big pedestal fan that moves the air around. People from around Attibele know where to find us when they are in a fix. We just keep working until the sun goes down and then we lock up the heavy metal shutters for the night. It’s honest work and keeps us busy enough to not notice the time passing. We just handle one battery at a time.
