At Hari Krishna Export, we operate out of 365, K M Road in Mudigere. Being in the Chikkmagalur district, coffee is basically all anyone talks about around here. Our place is right on the main road, so we see all the trucks carrying timber and produce going past. It’s a very green part of the country, especially when the monsoon hits and everything turns bright. We spend our days dealing with the coffee trade, which involves a lot of lifting, weighing, and sorting. It’s a lot of manual labor and it can get tiring when the weather is humid. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning. We just have our workspace and the storage area. Most of us have lived in Mudigere our whole lives, so we know the local farmers and the families who have been growing coffee for generations. We don't use any big words to describe what we do. We just export coffee and try to do it right. Sometimes the phone doesn't stop ringing and other days it’s quiet enough to hear the birds in the trees behind the building. We’ve got a lot of coffee dust on our clothes by the end of the day, but that’s just part of the trade. It’s a decent life here on K M Road. We just take things one day at a time. The work is steady and it keeps us busy enough.
