Nongtham Handloom Cluster Producer Company Limited

We are set up on the second floor of the UD Building in Miao. It’s a simple space, nothing too elaborate. We are a producer company, which means a bunch of us weavers have come together to work as a cluster. Being on the second floor means we get a bit of a breeze, which helps when the looms are going. Miao is a small place, so everyone pretty much knows where the UD Building is. We spend our days coordinating with the different families who do the handloom work at home and bringing it all together here. We check the quality and pack things up. It’s a lot of counting and checking patterns. We don't have a big staff, just a few people to manage the books and the stock. The stairs up to the office are a bit steep, so we get our exercise. We usually have rolls of cloth stacked against the walls. It’s not a showroom, just a place where the business side of the handloom cluster gets handled. We don't do much in the way of marketing. We just focus on the traditional designs that have been around here for generations. It’s steady work and it keeps us busy. Sometimes we have meetings with the local weavers to discuss new colors or threads we want to try out. We just take it as it comes and try to stay organized.
