We operate a bit differently than some of the bigger firms. Since our official details are usually tied to the specific projects listed on a resume, we are often moving from one site to the next. Construction is a hands-on business, and sitting in an office all day doesn't get the walls built. We’ve worked in various locations, following where the contracts take us. It’s a lifestyle of tool belts, cement mixers, and early mornings. One week we might be in one part of town, and the next, we are setting up somewhere else. This flexibility is just how we’ve always done it. My phone is basically my office. Most of the coordinating happens while I'm standing on a pile of gravel or looking at a half-finished structure. It can be a bit disorganized at times, keeping track of different crews and material deliveries, but we manage to get through it. We’ve seen all sorts of jobs, from small renovations to larger building projects. Every site has its own set of headaches, like rain delays or late deliveries, but that’s the trade. We don't have a big sign on a building; our work is what people see when the scaffolding comes down. It’s hard work, and by the end of the week, I’m usually pretty tired, but there is a certain satisfaction in seeing a physical thing you helped create with your own hands and a small crew.
