Our shop, Monicas, is tucked away on RK Mandir Road in Sector 8, over in the MIDC area. It’s more of an industrial side of town, so we get a lot of workers coming in during their breaks. The building is an old one, and the plumbing can be a bit temperamental sometimes, but we make it work. We start our day pretty early, usually when the sun is just coming up. There’s a lot of dust from the road outside, so we have to wipe the shelves down a couple of times a day. We don't have any fancy signs or flashing lights. Most people find us because someone else told them where we were. It’s a small family operation. My sister handles the books and I do most of the heavy lifting. We’ve got a small radio in the back that mostly plays old songs, and it keeps us company while we work. The front door squeaks every time someone opens it, which is actually helpful because it lets us know someone is there if we’re in the back. We don't have a big menu or a lot of choices. We just do what we know how to do. It’s honest work and it pays the bills. We don't really think much about being the best, we just try to get through the day without making too many mistakes. The clock on the wall is five minutes fast, but we leave it that way so we never run late closing up.
