About Gautam Kumar Architect – Architect, Interior & Structural Design in Chandigarh
I run my architectural practice out of House Number 1015 in Sector-42 B. It’s a quiet area, which is good when you need to focus on detailed drawings or structural calculations. My desk is usually covered in blueprints and pens that have run out of ink. I’ve lived and worked around here for a long time, so I know the local building codes in the sector pretty well. It’s just me and a couple of helpers sometimes. We don’t have a big glass storefront or a receptionist. If the door is open, I’m probably inside working on a house plan or a renovation project. Most of my day is spent on the phone with contractors or sitting at the drawing board. I don’t use a lot of big words to describe what I do. It’s basically about making sure a building is safe and uses the space well. People from the neighborhood often drop by to ask about getting a permit or how to fix a leak in their roof. I try to help out where I can. Working from Sector-42 B means I don't have a long commute, so I can start early and stay late if a project needs it. It’s an honest way to make a living. I like the challenge of taking a blank piece of paper and turning it into a home. There’s no corporate ladder here, just the work and the deadline for the next drawing.
